the big trucks do that for aerodynamics...dont have them in europe because of space resrictions.

but I agree witrh the last point. europe is like the opposite of a america in cars and trucks.

To be fair, conventional cab trucks are much easier to work on than cab-overs and the US doesn't have an overall length limit like there is in parts of Europe. Also, the US has a lower Gross Axle Weight limit and the longer wheelbase helps balance weight better.

Carefully chose a trick image! That's not a Swedish anything, they're made in America.

Here's a Swedish Volvo FH towing a typically Swedish combination (rigid truck, standard 13.6m trailer, 60 tonne limit):

To be fair, it is an American market Swedish truck.

In most other markets the Swedish truck would look like this:

European regulators are, sadly, anti-science aerodynamics deniers.

I'd hesitate to say most of the world uses conventional (from my perspective!) trucks but much of it does.

Have Chinese, Brazilian and Indian trucks:

I just wanted you to know that in Freedomland you can have a big diesel and a big petrol truck. Because freedom. And cheap-ass gas.

Not just Europe, much if not most of the world uses trucks like that. Aerodynamics might be worse but nobody (except maybe long haul drivers) wants longer trucks. Other road users are persuaded that they are the harbringers of evil, owners don't want the dead weight and extra cost, distribution centre and warehouse operators don't want vehicles that don't fit the existing infrastructure. When you're limited to 90kmh the extra aerodynamic drag isn't as significant as it would be at higher speeds.

You'd be partial too if you were paying €1.30 per litre for petrol.

Notes that even a 1.5 diesel Focus is more than 100 bhp....

We used to have both, but cab overs got fazed out by the 80s.

Note the typically Scandinavian layout, short rigid truck towing standard trailer on a dolly.

Canada also uses long trucks.

I think they look much more badass than the cab-over ones.

American trucking is a huge part of American culture, they have the coolest looking trucks by far.

You act like the price of fuel and proliferation of asthmatic shitboxes are cause/effect when, in fact, both are intentional effects of your governments' policies.

On the open highway, a cab over is not as necessary as in city driving.
